Marion, NC... "Where main street meets the mountains."

The lovely town of Marion occupies 5.2 square miles of land along the Catawba River Basin, at the eastern foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Western North Carolina.

With scenic Lake James only a few miles to the northeast, public boating, fishing and water recreation is only minutes away from the Lakewood development. Grab your fishing pole, water skis and picnic basket for an unforgettable day on the water.

Marion offers five parks within the city limits, three of which are operated by the city of Marion and two of which are run by McDowell county. Outdoor recreation activities abound. The kids will love the skatepark and if you're looking to swing the bat, visit the Maple Leaf Ballfields off Finley Road.

If you'd like to get out and go for a drive - perhaps some leaf peeping, Marion is just a few minutes south of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Colors in the Fall around Lakewood are to die for. The combination of mountains, hardwoods, and wildlife draw outdoor enthusiasts to the Marion area year round.

Marion is a thriving community, rich in history. This area was the western-most outpost prior to the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Parts of the Over Mountain Victory Trail from the Revolutionary War are still accessible today.
